Megan Cassidy is a baby boomer, born in 1950 She attended Buena High School and graduated in 1968. After studying drawing, painting, color and design for two years at Ventura Junior College with Bernard Deitz, Dick Phelps and Gerd Koch she transferred to the University of Hawaii.

There she worked with LeeChesney and Les Biller on painting and drawing. Biller is a colorist figurative painter and Cheney was an Abstract Expressionist Both men have greatly influenced Megan's work.
She received her BFA with honors in painting and and a minor in drawing in 1972. The University's East West Center and it's East West library are rich resources in Japanese, Indian and Chinese arts which continue to inspire both her palette and composition in Megan's art.

In 1972 she continued her studies in Puebla, Mexico at La Universita de las Americas. She became very interested in Mexican art and it's use of color and symbolism and continued exploring the use of color and line in painting. In 1974 she received a masters degree in painting with a minor in art history. She returned to California and worked in a studio in Santa Monica on a series of abstract paintings exploring geometric studies of line and color.
Megan married in 1980 and moved to Santa Barbara. This was not a productive period for her.

She painted only one very sad painting (a very sad self portrait.) In 1984 her husband stopped paying for her storage space and she lost almost all prior work. By 1985 she was divorced and painting in Santa Monica.
This is, fortunately, not the only man who influenced the course of her work, and therefore not a rant about how hard it is for women in art. Thanks to a generous friend (Mark Aurelius) she was able to have a stable and very pleasant abode with studio space for over 20 years allowing her to develop her work and literally fill her home with her work. That work fluctuated between figurative and abstract but always stressing line. color and composition

In 1990 Megan began working as a bilingual teacher for Los Angeles School District and very much enjoyed the experience. She worked with children seven to eleven years old teaching the regular curriculum including Spanish and English. She also was part of the arts cadre and taught art and art history (language depended on the class.) The school districts required Megan to get another degree (this one in masters in education which she got in 1995.)

She has shown her work in Honolulu, Puebla, Ventura and West Los Angeles but has focussed on painting and drawing for the last 24 years instead of showing.
